I recently had this little gem of a news report brought to my attention. It has been reported that an Ohio based American company called the Universal Tube & Rollform Equipment Corporation, who manufacture pipes, are proprietors of the website utube.com, and have been since 1996.
They apparently recently brought an action in a Federal court, seeking an injunction, damages and the transfer of the domain name youtube.com to them. Apparently all the additional traffic since youtube.com opened is hurting their business, which seems to have diversified from pipe manufacture into ringtone downloads, insurance quotes and dating agencies (see top of website).
Apparently their action hasn't succeeded, although they haven't as of yet exhausted all potential legal remedies.
